" ROSCOE "
Roscoe the bloodhound was a very famous fellow. In the beginning his fame was earned in the field as the Berkeley County Rescue Squad's tracking dog. His owner Marietta Hicks had a wonderous idea after noticing the love children showed towards Roscoe and she started " Roscoe's Readers " This reading program spread like wildfire through the schools. Roscoe and several other dogs would visit the children in school and encourage them to read. Teachers noted that most of the children were suddenly READING BOOKS...lots of books! The books read and tested on earned ice cream parties, free books and prizes and a year end chance at winning bicycles. Thank you Roscoe for all you gave us... you are deeply missed.
